The holidays are filled with love, laughter, and thanks to the choirs here at Mason High School, song. In its fourteenth year, the choral department under the direction of Elaine Santos will be performing the Elegant Holiday concert on December 9 and 10.

For Santos this performance really helps everyone get in the holiday spirit.

“It really is a great joy and kick starts the season,” Santos said.

Elegant Holiday has been a tradition in the choral department for 14 years. Santos inherited the challenge of continuing the program after show founder and former choir director Beth Kenniv. Santos has been directing this program for ten years.

Not only has this been a tradition for the high school choirs, but also for the eighth grade choir, as they will perform a selection of songs for the concert.

Those in attendance can expect a variety of festive events. Dessert will be served with coffee or tea while the choirs performance and there will be the grand finale with all the singers coming together for a performance of “The Hallelujah Chorus.”

“Everyone in the audience stands and joins in with the choir,” Santos said. “The large commons is filled with sound. It really raises the roof with sound.”

The choir performs songs that encompass numerous cultures. Whether you celebrate Hanukkah, Kwanza or Al Hijri New Years, there’s bound to be a celebratory song for you.

Elegant Holiday is December 9 and 10. Seating starts at promptly at 6:20 pm and the performances start at 7:00 pm. Both nights are currently sold out of seats. However, standing room only is available for five dollars at the door.
