Greatness from small beginnings.
From May 30 to June 2, Mason Boys Basketball is hosting a summer camp for younger players to gain experience from older players, while exercising their own basketball mechanics. The camp is taking place in the middle school and Intermediate gyms.
Junior and JV basketball player Kazeem Adewumi said he enjoys his role at the camp because of his positive influence on the younger players.
“My favorite part of this camp is helping kids get better at basketball,” Adewumi said. “I get to teach them new skills they didn’t know before.”
Adewumi’s enthusiasm to guide the younger kids is shared by his coaches. Coach Chad Layton said the camp has gone on for his entire coaching career at Mason, and everyone seems to have fun.
“I’ve been coaching basketball here for about 15 years and we’ve done this every summer,” Layton said. “I think it’s great because the younger kids totally love it and the older kids really enjoy it too.”
