What. A. Game.

The Comets are Regional Champions and have earned an appearance in the state Final Four in Columbus after defeating Greater Miami Conference (GMC) rival Lakota West 54-51 at Trent Arena on Saturday night.

The game was an instant classic between two familiar foes. The Comets and Firebirds split the season series and shared the GMC title for the second straight year.

In their last match-up, the Comets were able to defeat Lakota West 61-54 without junior forward Sammie Puisis. The Firebirds were also without a key starter with senior forward Jasmine Ballew being out with a concussion. Both teams were at full strength in this game.

Mason was aided by junior guard Sade Tucker as she scored a season high 20 points, including some key free throws down the stretch to help finish off Lakota West.

The game was close to the very end as neither team had a lead of more than six points. It was a scrappy game with a total of 30 turnover committed between the two teams.

Mason had their hands full dealing with senior forward Abby Prohaska. With a game high 21 points, Prohaska constantly made clutch baskets and kept the Firebirds in it to the very end.

On Friday, March 16, Mason will play the number one ranked team in the state, Pickerington Central, at the Schottenstein Center at Ohio State.
