The Mason Women’s Soccer team began their 2019 season this past weekend at Corwin Nixon Park. Separated into two teams by grade level, the two teams played a total of five games each.

The season has begun, and so has the winning for the Mason Comets.

Senior Maddie Clark said the tournament is a great way to ease into the competitive nature of the season before the stress of tryouts.

“We all love playing in the tournament because we are able to play together as a class before the pressure of tryouts start,” Clark said. “It also gets us back into our season routine and prepares us for the (official) start of the season.”

Freshman Maddy Baird and Clark said the girls competitive results this past weekend didn’t come from nothing,

“We start lifting the week we get back from winter break,” said Clark. “And we do conditioning three or four times a week throughout the summer”.

The Comets’ early jump on training wasn’t without merit: Their first team finished the tournament off with a 1-2-2 record and a top ten standing, and their second team finished with a 2-3 record.

Freshman Maddy Baird said this pre-season tournament has further boosted her confidence in their upcoming season.

“Be ready,” Baird said. “Because we are going far!”.
